News from the STEM Hub: VW Apprentices Gain Insights at the University of Kassel

On July 7, 2026, 30 Volkswagen apprentices visited the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kassel as part of a field trip. The event was organized by the University of Kassel’s MINT Hub with the aim of providing participants with hands-on insight into current research, state-of-the-art laboratories, and the diverse fields of study and career opportunities in Mechanical Engineering.

Visitors on Campus: Volkswagen apprentices visited the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kassel as part of a MINT Hub field trip.

During the visit, five departments introduced themselves: Human-Machine Systems Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics/Continuum Mechanics, and Engineering Dynamics. In addition, the group learned about the student project “Herkules Racing Team” and gained insights into the development and construction of race cars by students.

Through lab tours and interactive workshops, the trainees were able to learn about various technologies, try them out for themselves, and engage in conversation with researchers and students. These hands-on activities provided an opportunity to ask questions about current research projects, technical applications, and study options.

The excursion strengthened the exchange between the university and industry and showed participants the diverse perspectives offered by studying and conducting research at the University of Kassel.
