- Passed Bachelor's examination in German as a foreign and second language, German studies, German or another language-related subject or at least an equivalent degree from another university
- and proof of a standard period of study of at least six semesters
- and a grade of "good" (up to 2.5)
- and a detailed, linguistically flawless letter of motivation in German

How do I write the letter of motivation?
Your letter of motivation should contain the following points:
- Reasons for applying to the University of Kassel and personal expectations of this degree program
- Concrete information on specific study interests and intended focus with reference to the structure, content, focus and objectives of the Kassel Master's degree program
- Information on previous subject-related achievements and the topic of the Bachelor's thesis/thesis, including a brief summary of the content of this thesis (in approx. five sentences)
- Information on any teaching experience or other practice-related activities and the professional goals pursued with the Master's degree in German as a Foreign and Second Language
The letter of motivation should contain
a total of 2800-3000 characters (including spaces): Letters containing fewer than 2800 characters (including spaces) or significantly more than the above-mentioned characters will be rejected.
Approx. 700 to max. 750 characters including spaces should be used
per criterion a) to d).
