Objective

Support for career development, enhancing leadership and management skills and expanding networks

Brief description

Women* are still largely underrepresented in the academic system. The percentage of women* along the academic career stages is still decreasing. In order to counteract this phenomenon of the “leaky pipeline”, gender equality-oriented career development programmes are offered to female* academics in the qualification phase in order to prevent the structural disadvantages of women* in academia. The equality-oriented graduate support programme focuses on the individual life situations and diverse starting points of academics in the qualification phase at the University of Kassel in order to recognise and support them in their diversity and with their individual needs.

Professors are not only top researchers, but also leaders. Tenure-track professors and first-time professors usually have leadership responsibility for the first time in their careers. This new role involves new challenges and diverse requirements that need to be mastered in everyday working life in order to successfully and effectively fulfil the professorship.
The University of Kassel would like to support its newly appointed and tenure-track professors with these new responsibilities and has set up the TT - Leadership Programme to further develop leadership and management skills. The programme focuses on the individual development of leadership skills as well as peer-to-peer exchange with other colleagues on selected leadership topics.

Being a mid-level manager means bearing a great deal of professional responsibility as well as guiding, supporting and leading employees. In this way, mid-level managers have a significant influence on the working atmosphere and cooperation within an organisation. This results in a variety of challenging and diverse tasks for managers. The university would like to support its middle management level in science and administration in the fulfilment of these tasks and has set up a managers' seminar for the further development of leadership and management skills. In addition to providing professional input, the emphasis is on developing leadership skills and exchanging ideas with colleagues from other areas of the university.
