Witzenhausen conference: "The last dirt?! - Soil protection in politics and practice."

The 26th Witzenhausen Conference will take place from December 4 to 8. This year's motto is "The last dirt? - Soil protection in politics and practice."

Soil is a habitat for humans, animals, plants and microorganisms. Together with air, water and solar energy, it forms the basis of all life. Its complex physical structure regulates water absorption, storage and purification. Humus-rich soils hardly erode during heavy rainfall and have a high water storage capacity. Soil that is rich in organic matter also serves as a carbon sink and therefore plays an important role in climate protection.

The aim of the conference is to draw attention to soil protection in politics and practice. What is the current state of our soils? What are politicians doing? What new technologies and cultivation methods do we need in agriculture to build up soil efficiently? What conditions do farmers need to be able to deal with soil protection in the hamster wheel of production and profitability? What role do ownership structures play?

The conference creates a space in which science, politics and practice can meet. Lectures and workshops provide the opportunity for exchange, networking and in-depth discussions, depending on the area of interest. A varied supporting program will round off the event.

The program in brief:

• December 04, 7 p.m.: Opening lecture, followed by a reception and finger food buffet
• 05 - 07 December, from 9.00 a.m.: Lectures and workshops, evening social program
• December 08, 9:00-12:30: Closing event, lunch
