Working with Wordpress for beginners (two-day workshop)

This two-day online workshop will teach you the professional handling of web design with content management systems (CMS) - in this case Wordpress. You can use the system to create and operate websites or blogs. The majority of websites are now based on Wordpress.

As the use of content management systems is a basic requirement in many editorial professions, those who are interested in jobs in journalism, press and public relations, corporate communications or marketing, for example, can use the knowledge acquired in the workshop to score points when applying for jobs.

The workshop is preferably aimed at beginners or students who already have experience with other content management systems (e.g. Typo3) but are not yet familiar with Wordpress.

Expectations and goals

In the course, after a theoretical introduction and practical instruction, three to four different websites are created in group work. The structures of a professional website and the basis for further expansion of the pages with plugins (online store elements, event calendar, etc.) will be demonstrated. Participants will also learn about tools for various useful aspects of web design, such as image editing, text structure, design, etc.

Although the main topics for the websites are given, these topics are to be worked out in the group. The opportunity to try out and create something yourself is always given in the workshop. The aim is for all participants to acquire the necessary knowledge to create a website.

This course is offered exclusively for FB 02 Humanities and Cultural Studies. Students from other departments can also take part if there is sufficient capacity. A certificate of attendance will be issued for successful participation on both days. It is also possible to acquire a credit for additive key competencies (credit type "Key competency event of the University of Kassel") if, in addition to participation, a website with all applicable requirements is created and edited.

Required for the workshop

The workshop will take place via Zoom. It is therefore important that you have a PC or laptop including a microphone. The use of a camera is optional. A stable internet connection is also necessary so that you can use Zoom without disruption.

Speaker

The workshop will be held by Pablo Jenior. He runs the agency Webdesign Jenior https://webdesign-jenior.de/ and works as deputy managing director at Verlag & Antiquariat Jenior. Many students have already learned the basics of web design and content marketing during an internship there.
