Urban planning by the many for the many. Processes and methods for citizen power
Renée Tribble and her office Planbude have been critically monitoring the Esso houses in Hamburg's St. Pauli district for years and have thus developed a best-practice example of participatory neighborhood development in Germany. The professor of urban development, urban land use planning and process design at TU Dortmund University explains how architecture can be rethought as an urban practice through the integration of many people and with the help of artistic interventions.

Dr. Renée Tribble is Professor of Urban Development, Urban Land Use Planning and Process Design at TU Dortmund University. She studied architecture at the Bauhaus University Weimar and received her doctorate in urban planning from HafenCity University Hamburg in 2021. As an independent planner, founding member and partner of PlanBude Hamburg and Projektbüro Hamburg, her focus is on cooperative and public welfare-oriented urban development processes. She conducts research on urban practice, art and urban planning, participatory neighborhood and urban development as well as cooperative planning processes.

The climate, biodiversity and energy crises are forcing us to radically question current building practices. Fusion Talks 2022/23 introduces actors who use unconventional concepts and ideas to advocate a genuine change in construction and mobility, other forms of city and landscape and contemporary teaching. To mark the 50th anniversary of the ASL department, the fusion builds on the long tradition of progressive ecological positions at the University of Kassel and updates them for the present. less: is a plea for less: fewer cars, less demolition, less concrete, less CO2, less environmental destruction, less sealing, less exploitation, less capitalism. The role of urban planners and architects will change significantly in the coming years. In order to ensure adequate training, we need more courage to experiment, interdisciplinary teaching concepts and a de-hierarchization of structures. The Fusion Talks aim to develop utopian potential and encourage people to change things themselves.

Fusion 2022/23 is conceived and organized by the student project group Less:ON and the Department of Architectural Theory and Design.
