Who says something like that? A panel discussion about satire and discrimination

For the second time, the Caricatura Gallery and the University of Kassel are jointly organizing a panel on satirical topics. At these panels, actors from the fields of satire, comic art, journalism, politics and science will talk about new developments and interactions between satire and society.

Who says something like that?
Societies are constantly changing, and the use of language, taboos and manners change with them. Terms that were acceptable yesterday are frowned upon today. Gestures that were disturbing yesterday are normal today. And the boundaries of what can be said are constantly shifting. This also affects satire, which, as a mirror of society, is particularly at the limits of social norms. A broad spectrum is offered here in the area of tension between enlightenment and discrimination.

How does society change language and how does language change society? How do satire and comedy develop with society? And how does satire change when it is deprived of the possibility of exaggeration? Author and journalist Hasnain Kazim, literary scholar Holger Kersten, Titanic editor-in-chiefJulia Mateus, cartoonist Til Mette and member of the Bundestag Boris Mijatovic will discuss these questions.
