Boathouse anniversary and donation campaign for rowing boats

It is just as indispensable to teacher training at the University of Kassel as it is to sports life on the Fulda: the seminar and boathouse at the University of Kassel is 10 years old. A large-scale sponsorship campaign is underway to mark the anniversary.

The building on Auedamm is more than just a boathouse: the Institute of Sport also uses it as a seminar building for teacher training. It also serves as an event venue for university sport, i.e. the institution that offers sports courses for members of the university. At the time, students from the University of Kassel worked on the design and technical building equipment under the motto "Students plan for students".

"For us, the boathouse is much more than just a place for water sports," says Institute Director Prof. Dr. Norbert Hagemann, explaining the significance of the building. "It combines teaching, practice and student involvement in a way that is very valuable for our Institute. For ten years, it has contributed to the practical training of sports teachers and at the same time enriched student life at the University of Kassel."

Boats were purchased for the inauguration in May 2016, which were partly financed by donations. As many of the rowing boats and kayaks are getting on in years, there is another appeal for donations for the anniversary under the motto "On course together".

Lukas Toby, university sport's water sports coordinator, adds: "It is only thanks to the generous support of previous sponsors that such a lively community of students and staff has been able to develop around the boathouse, which I have been able to experience myself and appreciate very much. Investments in infrastructure and equipment are essential in order to maintain and further develop water sports at the University of Kassel and this special community in the long term. Especially in difficult social times, it is more important than ever to bring people together and create places for shared experiences."

At the university's internal event "Uni in Bewegung" on June 10, 2026 (from 2 p.m.), the boathouse will also become a meeting place for exercise, health and new experiences this year.
