Opening: Digital Unfolds the Myriad Forms – China-Europe Intermedia Art Touring Exhibition

"Digital Unfolds the Myriad Forms – China-Europe Intermedia Art Touring Exhibition" showcases how Chinese and European artists work with digital media today: video works alongside AI-generated imagery, interactive installations alongside photography, and experimental image formats alongside AR and game-based works. What unites them is their exploration of technology, perception, memory, and the question of how we will live together in the future. The exhibition is not intended as a static presentation, but rather as a journey that takes on a new form with every visit: Visitors move among screens, sensors, sounds, and data streams, becoming part of a situation that is continuously generated and transformed by the digital media themselves.

In Kassel, a city with one of the most influential traditions of contemporary art in Germany, the exhibition finds a home in a venue that has been fostering experimentation, public engagement, and transcultural exchange for decades. Artistic practices from China and Europe converge here directly within the space—not hung side by side, but interwoven—and open up a space that can be observed, traversed, and questioned. This is not merely about new forms of media art, but an invitation to recalibrate the relationship between human and machine, body and image, local experience and global culture.

The project is an international collaboration between the Kassel Art Academy and the University of Kassel with the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts. The exhibition opens in the exhibition hall of the Kassel Art Academy and will then travel to two European partner venues: the mudaC | museo delle arti di Carrara in Italy and the École Supérieure d’Art d’Avignon in France. As a European tour of Chinese cross-media art, the project connects Kassel, Carrara, and Avignon into an ongoing network of artistic exchange—three cities, three art academies, one shared dialogue.
