Taekwon-Do group from the University of Kassel once again successful at the German Championship and the Online Open World ITF TKD Pattern Championship 2025
Image: University of KasselIn the Tul discipline, in which every prescribed technique must be performed with precision, strength, balance, rhythm and expression, Janice Schneller (7th cup, yellow-green belt) fought her way through the field of participants and, after the silver medal in 2024, now deservedly took the gold medal. Debutant Luca Scholz (8th cup, yellow belt) also made a decent debut with silver in the Tul discipline. He then went on to secure gold in the Bruchtest competition.
Medals were also collected in the advanced groups: Julius Stabel (1st Kup, red-black belt), and Tobias Schäfer (also 1st Kup) were delighted to win silver and bronze in their group in the Tul discipline. Despite a very strong performance and impressive synchronization, the two did not make it onto the podium in the Sychron Tul run, to the astonishment of many other participants. Mario Schulz and Markus Maler (both 1st Dan) faced strong competition in their group, with Mario Schulz making it onto the podium with the bronze medal in a jump-off. In the high-grade group, Christian Graf, 4th Dan, was defeated by a competitor despite a flawless performance and took a well-deserved silver medal.
In the breaking test, a sequence of foot techniques was specified, with which wooden boards measuring 30x30x3 cm had to be broken in a round. As already mentioned, Luca Scholz won gold on his debut. In the advanced group (2nd Kup - 8th Dan), the tournament came to a tense conclusion: by the third round, only teammates Christian Graf and Tobias Schäfer had prevailed. The tournament ended in this round when Tobias Schäfer (1st cup) was the only one to smash the board with the required technique, a Dollmyo Yop Cha Chirugi (side-foot kick from a body turn). This meant that gold and silver went to the TKD team from the University of Kassel.
With a total of 3 x gold, 4 x silver and 2 x bronze, the team returned to Kassel in the evening extremely satisfied.
The registration deadline for the 2025 Online Open World ITF Taekwon-Do Pattern Championship was also at the beginning of April. At the online world championship, participants have the opportunity to record a tul (pattern, technical form) in a specified video format and according to their graduation and have it evaluated by an international committee of judges. Four participants from the TKD group at the University of Kassel took part. The results of the World ITF Taekwon-Do Council were published on April 14:
Christian Graf (4th Dan) and Julius Stabel (1st Kup) won gold with their performances. Debutant Markus Mahler (1st Dan) was delighted with bronze. His teammate Mario Schulz (1st Dan) surpassed him in the rankings and came second (silver). For him, this was an improvement on last year, when he took bronze.
In total, 2 x gold, 1 x silver and 1 x bronze for the Taekwon-Doin of the University of Kassel.
