Quality development in educational and social science core studies (QualitätsKern)

Around 5,600 students (as of 2018) are enrolled on a teacher training course at the University of Kassel. In addition to the study of future teaching subjects and their didactics as well as practical school studies, the Kassel teacher training program includes a compulsory core course in education and social sciences. As part of the project "Quality development in educational and social science core studies" (03.2018 to 02.2020) funded by the University of Kassel in the program line "Promotion of good teaching in large degree programs", the core studies sub-course is to be further developed in cooperation with internal university stakeholder groups.

The three overarching principles of the project are transparency, openness and participation, which run through the entire project and guide the work of the established steering group. The reform process is aimed at changes at the levels of curriculum, university didactics and structure. Work on project goals and associated topics is carried out in working groups, which are supported by members of the steering group.

Systematic evaluations of research findings on the situation at the University of Kassel and discourses on teacher training in general form a starting point. In addition, research and analyses of existing initiatives and teaching projects at the University of Kassel will be carried out.
