Communication, transport, medicine, education, production, construction and housing - none of these areas can do without digitalized technology today. Artificial intelligence (AI) in particular is conquering our everyday lives with innovative systems. As a result, more and more experts are needed who enjoy shaping the world with their knowledge. The six-semester Bachelor's degree course in Computer Science at the University of Kassel builds on this attitude and qualifies graduates for future professions.
The course covers the entire breadth of computer science. The global approach is demonstrated by the fourteen subject areas within computer science that offer courses in the degree program. In addition to teaching mathematical knowledge, theoretical and methodological principles and key skills, the practical courses, laboratories and student teamwork always focus on practical applications - for example, intelligent systems, IT security, modern software development or climate-friendly computing.
Computer science does not mean "learning to program" or "knowing how to use a computer", but goes far beyond this by taking a scientific and interdisciplinary approach to complex technical problems and social contexts during the course. At the same time, the use of the "computer", i.e. the device that converts mathematics into information, is of course required. The department offers students mentoring programs and other support, especially during the introductory phase of their studies - such as a "math bridge course", which helps students to pass the obligatory mathematics test.
