Career prospects

The occupational fields for physicists are diverse. Only around a fifth work in the traditional occupation of physicist. Physicists are also in demand in IT and financial professions, sales, management, consulting and teaching professions. The long-term development of the labor market is very positive. Unemployment hardly plays a role and, with the exception of cyclical fluctuations, unemployment figures have been falling for decades. Statistically speaking, physicists have the highest level of satisfaction with their choice of subject of all subjects. The research focus areas of optics and nanotechnology pursued in Kassel are particularly promising for the future.

The German Physical Society collects statistics annually to analyze occupational fields and developments in the job market.
