The UMBC makes available a complimentary application code to you as a future exchange student and this saves you registration fees of $50.00. The International Office will send you the current code if you have been nominated for a place on the exchange programme.
- After acceptance by the UMBC (from April onwards)
- Visa
You will receive a DS-2019 form from the UMBC and can use it to apply for a J-1 student visa. - Online registration for courses
Shortly after receiving your letter of acceptance, you can register for courses online. This is easy to do if the courses are not full and no preconditions have been set for participation. If you are unable to register for a course for one of these reasons, you must contact the relevant tutor directly and ask for a letter of acceptance for the course. You should deal with registration for courses as early as possible. - Accommodation
Exchange students are housed in student apartments. After receiving your letter of acceptance, you can register for accommodation online. You will find more detailed information at the UMBC Residential Life website. - Health insurance
Exchange students at the UMBC with a J-1 visa must take out US health insurance. We recommend that you take out travel insurance in advance that is valid until lectures have started. After this, we recommend health insurance with Aetna Student Health. Former exchange students advise you not to look for any other US health insurance scheme to meet the requirements because of the effort involved in this.
