Panel discussion: Chat GPT, we need to talk... Possibilities, limits and dangers of AI

Panel discussion as part of the Philosophical Colloquium Summer Semester 2023

Since the release of Chat GPT (3.5) in November 2022, the question of the possibilities and limits of artificial intelligence has occupied the public more than ever. In particular, the performance of this language generator, which astounded even large parts of the expert community, has led to speculation about apocalyptic scenarios as well as far-reaching transhumanist reveries, which often overshadow a realistic assessment of the possibilities, limits and dangers of this technology. In order to adequately assess the positive and negative potential of such language generators, as well as artificial intelligence in general, a discourse is required that examines and evaluates the various aspects of the problem from multiple perspectives and beyond the boundaries of the discipline.

In order to enter into such a discourse, the Institute of Philosophy has organized a public panel discussion, which will focus on the aspects of education and (higher) education, the public as well as society and politics, among others. The panelists are: Walter Blocher (CIO, Business Law), Alexandra Colligs (Philosophy), Maximilian Pichl (Political Science) and Dirk Stederoth (Philosophy). After short inputs and a discussion on the podium, the panel will also take questions and contributions from the audience.
