Kassel professor receives prestigious international research award

On July 8, Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Burchardt, Head of the Department of International Relations at the University of Kassel, was awarded the prestigious Argentinian Leloir Research Prize. The prize, named after the biochemist and Nobel Prize winner Luis Federico Leloir, is one of the highest awards that international scientists can receive for outstanding services to Argentine science, the promotion of young talent and scientific cooperation.

The award ceremony took place as part of an international ceremony attended by numerous guests and other award winners from cities such as New York, London, Rome, Copenhagen and Sydney.

In his acceptance speech, Burchardt emphasized: "We need a new global understanding to overcome the destructive apathy towards the climate crisis. Visions nurtured by researchers who reconcile the old and the new, who focus on research, change and solutions. The natural and technical sciences are indispensable for this. But without the social sciences and humanities, there will be no solutions. The promotion of science is the most important investment in the future. That is why I am committed to continuing to work with the Argentinian sciences and creating a future horizon for us all."

Prof. Burchardt heads a large number of international research and cooperation projects with Argentina and other Latin American countries at the University of Kassel.
