Sociologist El-Mafaalani discusses with Kassel students

The "Glass of Reason" prize is being awarded for the 35th time this year. The 20,000 euro award from the Kassel Citizens' Association goes to the author and professor of migration and educational sociology Aladin El-Mafaalani. The Board of Directors and Board of Trustees honored El-Mafaalani for the "clarity with which he focuses on children as the ultimate meaning and only future of society and represents intergenerational cohesion as a democratic community of trust."

On the day before the award ceremony, the prizewinner will be talking to young people at the university. Students at the University of Kassel will have the opportunity to take part. El-Mafaalani will be joined on the podium by University President Prof. Dr. Ute Clement and the Chairman of the Citizens' Association, Prof. Dr. Wilfried Sommer.

El-Mafaalani worked as a teacher for many years and later coordinated integration policy in North Rhine-Westphalia as Department Head at the Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration. As a professor of migration and educational sociology at the Technical University of Dortmund, he now deals with the structural challenges of a society in which twice as many people retire as leave school every year. Both his research work and his public work have received numerous awards. He has been awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and is a bestselling author.

Students of the University of Kassel and school pupils are welcome to attend the event at the University of Kassel. Registration is not necessary.
