Get to know institutions in the counseling sector through internships. Voluntary work in the social sector can help you gain experience in consulting.

You will need a lot of explicit experience in the field of consulting to enter the field of management consulting. Internships and many years working in different companies are important in order to get to know different structures.

Requirements for starting a career
Depending on the exact job, the required practical experience varies greatly. First of all, it is advisable to get a precise orientation in the desired field in order to be able to do specific internships.

In most cases, a non-specific university degree is expected. In general, didactic knowledge and application-oriented specialist knowledge must be demonstrated through practical experience. Experience abroad is a mandatory requirement in some areas.

There is hardly any specific training or course of study for any advisory activity. There are numerous further training and qualification courses in various fields.

Counseling is at least part of many different academic jobs, even if the word "counseling" does not appear directly in the job title. Jobs that involve contact with customers, users or various departments often have something to do with consulting, regardless of whether it is an institution, public authority or company.
