Family-Friendly Campus
The University of Kassel has established a supportive infrastructure for families at all its locations, which is being continuously expanded. This page provides an overview of parent-child rooms, breastfeeding and diaper-changing facilities, quiet rooms, the Student Service's “MahlZeit, Kinder!” card, play areas, and portable nurseries, as well as university exercise offers.

Family café and family breakfast
The family café and family breakfast offer you a place to meet, exchange ideas, and network. Come by to share your experiences, ask questions, or simply strike up a conversation. Children of all ages are welcome. Small snacks, a (child-friendly) breakfast, and drinks are available. The offer is free of charge and no prior registration is required. You can come and go flexibly within the stated timeframe.
Family café: Wednesdays from 3 p.m. (until approx. 5 p.m.)

In the parent-child rooms, students and employees of the University of Kassel can meet, exchange ideas, and support each other in caring for their children. The rooms are equipped with a variety of amenities: you will find play areas with various toys and children's books, a children's seating area, a changing table and a highchair. Additionally, the rooms have Wi-Fi, so they can be used as a workspace with your personal devices.
Holländischer Platz location
- Campus Center, Moritzstraße 18, Level 02, Room 2144
- Keys are available at the Campus Center information desk upon signing a signature log.
- Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Diagonale 10, Level 1, Room 1418
- Keys are available from security in the entrance hall.
Heinrich-Plett-Straße location (AVZ)
- Ground floor of the main building at Heinrich-Plett-Straße 40, room 0212
- Keys are available from the custodians at the main entrance of the building in exchange for a deposit.
- Please note: there are no baby changing facilities in the AVZ parent-child room. These can be found in the toilets near the room.
Wilhelmshöhe Allee location
- Basement, room -1305 (signs to the room are posted from the pillar hall)
- Please note: Access is only available with an activated multifunction card. To obtain a card, please fill out an application for building/room access via multifunction card, which must be submitted together with your CampusCard on the first floor. Please note the custodians’ office hours as well.
Location: Kassel Art Academy
- North building entrance, Menzelstraße 13-15, room 0334,
- Please note: Access is only available with an electronic chip. To obtain one, please fill out an application form, available from the custodians in the same building (please note office hours). Due to space constraints, there are no diaper changing facilities in the parent-child room at the art academy.
- Opening hours during lecture period: Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Opening hours during non-lecture period: Monday & Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Wednesday & Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m
Witzenhausen location
- Steinstr. 19, lecture hall and laboratory building (building no. 3030), ground floor, room no. 0008
- the room is not locked; a baby changing facility is located in an adjoining room.
Overview of breastfeeding and diaper changing rooms:
- Holländischer Platz location, Campus Center, level 2, room 2143 (next to the parent-child room, key available at the information desk in the Campus Center)
- Central cafeteria at HoPla: right entrance near the restrooms
- Art Academy location: Rest and relaxation room (next to the cafeteria) R-1618 Lecture hall wing, Menzelstraße 13
Changing tables are located at the following locations:
- Science Park: Ground floor, near the disabled restroom, room 0.017
- Holländischer Platz: Building ESW 1, Kurt-Wolters-Straße 5, in the vestibule of the restrooms (room 008), ground floor
- Wilhelmshöher Allee: near the cafeteria, in the foyer of the women's and men's restrooms, room 0130
- AVZ, Heinrich-Plett-Straße: near the cafeteria, in the foyer of the toilets and in the foyer of the ladies' toilet near the parent-child room (room 212)
- Art Academy: Menzelstraße, lecture hall wing room - 1618 (in the rest and relaxation room)
- Witzenhausen: Steinstraße 19, first floor, in the foyer of the ladies' restroom and lecture hall and laboratory building 3030, ladies' restroom on the ground floor
- Witzenhausen: Nordbahnhofstraße, new lecture building, in the foyer of the ladies' restroom (basement)
Rest and relaxation rooms / First aid stations
The “rest and relaxation rooms / first aid stations” at the University of Kassel are primarily designed to offer people with special protection needs the opportunity to rest. This group of people includes (for example) pregnant women and nursing mothers, people with disabilities such as wheelchair users.

Students and employees of the University of Kassel can borrow portable nurseries in the form of easy-to-carry boxes with lids and all kinds of toys to keep children entertained. You can borrow the portable toy boxes from the Equal Opportunities Office for seminars, conferences, workshops, specialist forums, and much more.

The Kassel Student Union has set up play areas or purchased toy boxes in the following cafeterias:
- Central canteen, new building
- AVZ cafeteria, Heinrich-Plett-Straße
- Art Academy, dining hall (toy box available for loan)
- Cafeteria in the Art Academy, Menzelstraße (toy box available for loan)
- Steinstraße cafeteria, Witzenhausen (play box available for loan)
The Kassel Student Services offer a free meal for students' children in the cafeteria with the "MahlZeit, Kinder!" card. Requirements for application: At least one parent must be a student and provide proof of enrollment and the child's birth certificate. The “MahlZeit, Kinder!” card is valid for one year and can then be reissued - for the last time in the year the child turns six, but no later than their 7th birthday.
Eating in the cafeterias: The “MahlZeit, Kinder!” card must be presented at the cafeteria cash register. In addition, the child must be accompanied by an adult who is purchasing a cafeteria meal themselves.
The MahlZeit, Kinder! card is available at the Student Services information desk on the third floor of the Campus Center, Moritzstraße 18, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Students at the Witzenhausen campus can obtain the card from the Kassel Student Services, Stubenstraße 20, 37213 Witzenhausen, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and by appointment.
Children of employees pay € 2.50 per plate.
General University Sports is offering exercise classes for students and staff at the University of Kassel, as well as parent-child classes (listed under “Gymnastics and Movement Arts” in the course schedule).
