MRS. DÖRRIE AND THE GHOSTS (D 2022)

FRAU DÖRRIE UND DIE GESPENSTER (D 2022, dir.: Thomas Henke) is the second film in the film series accompanying the Kassel Grimm Poetry Professorship. The film was made on the occasion of Doris Dörrie's Grimm Poetry Professorship in 2022 and will celebrate its premiere at the Kassel DokFest 2022 on Saturday, November 19, from 4:30 pm at the Kassel Gloria-Kino(Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 3, 34117 Kassel).

Wearing a plastic bag on her head, the director will appear in front of Gerardo Milsztein's camera at the BALi arthouse cinema in Kassel and talk about herself, filming and writing. During her self-chosen appearance as a ghost, only her eyes are occasionally visible through holes behind the bag. In the empty movie theater, however, the view of the (not always empty) screen does not remain completely unobserved ...

The result is a 24-minute short film which, in the form of a mise-en-abyme, shows the filmmaker in the cinema and sometimes also on the screen, as a director and writer, while also reflecting on the medium itself through the medium of a very visible, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes tired, sometimes interested and perhaps also bored, but always very visible and present ghost (Johann Held).

The Kassel Grimm Poetry Professorship (GPP) is currently being given a new media focus. Not only will more filmmakers be invited to Kassel alongside writers. In cooperation with media artist and director Thomas Henke (FH Bielefeld), an accompanying series of filmic (artist) portraits of the prizewinners has also been initiated. This is an associative continuation in the tradition of FELICITAS HOPPE SAYS (D 2017; dir. Thomas Henke and Oliver Held), a cinematic portrait of a female author that was created two years before Felicitas Hoppe's Kassel Grimm Poetry Professorship.
