Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning (Master)

The central challenges facing our society are climate change, the decline in biodiversity, socio-ecological transformations and health. Those who choose this Master's degree program will deal with these challenges scientifically and develop creative and innovative concepts for a sustainable and liveable environment in urban and rural areas.

Existing ideas will be critically scrutinized and further developed, and new ideas will be tested and discussed. We work on creative designs, planning concepts and scientifically sound strategies for future spaces in various Master's specializations. Master's graduates work in a social context: they analyze, develop and design landscapes and urban open spaces as functional and identification spaces.

The profile of the Master's degree program is research-oriented and qualifies students for scientific work as well as reflective planning and design. An important goal of this degree is to obtain the so-called "chamber qualification", as only members of the chambers of architects and planners have access to all professional opportunities. Based on current issues from research and practice, in-depth basic knowledge is taught at the University of Kassel over four semesters. Graduates work in a structural-spatial or strategic-conceptual context. They apply their design, planning-conceptual and scientific knowledge and skills in complex and interdisciplinary contexts.

Four Master's specializations contribute to an individual study profile and help with orientation towards the requirements of different professional fields. Students can specialize in "Landscape Architecture and Open Space Planning", "Landscaping and Plant Use", "Environmental Planning and Landscape Management" and "Urban Planning / Urban Design".
