Childcare during School Holidays
During the holiday or school break seasons, it can be especially challenging for working and studying parents to balance work or studies with childcare.
The University of Kassel offers a range of holiday childcare options in cooperation with other institutions. You can find the latest information on this page.
Holiday activities at the educational farm for children aged 6-12
Summer holidays
Period: 29 June–17 July 2026, daily from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Lernhof, Weg in der Aue 75, 34128 Kassel
Cost: €160, siblings €100 (cost per week including lunch)
Registration deadlines:
29 June–3 July 2026: Registration is possible until 8 June 2026
6 July–10 July 2026: Registration is possible until 15 June 2026
13 July–17 July 2026: Registration is possible until 22 June 2026
Weekly bookings are possible.
autumn holidays:
Period: 12 October–16 October 2026, daily from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Lernhof, Weg in der Aue 75, 34128 Kassel
Cost: €160, siblings €100 (cost per week including lunch)

The holiday games at the Lernhof allow children to come into contact with the animals that live there. In addition, a programme focusing on animal- and nature-based education (e.g. joint animal care, donkey walks, outdoor cooking, creative activities) is offered.
A fixed number of places are available for the children of employees and students of the University of Kassel.
Depending on the availability of funds, the costs for students' children can be covered (if interested, please send an email to familywelcomeservice[at]uni-kassel[dot]de ). Employees must bear the costs themselves.

Children's University: ‘Paper and Magic Ink Research Workshop’ (Easter holidays)

The ancient Egyptians made papyrus, and Harry Potter could read magic ink! We will explore plant-based raw materials and make our own paper. We will write with secret ink made from lemons, apples and onions! And we will find out why and how it all works!
A collaboration between Bildung trifft Entwicklung, Bündnis für Familie and WeltGarten Witzenhausen, with Ines Fehrmann. For children aged 8-12.
Cost: €70 per child.

Holiday Children's University: ‘Nutrition Research Workshop’ (summer holidays)

- Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
The researchers explore their food: Where does it come from? What effect does it have on the body and the climate? What do people eat elsewhere? They experiment, ask questions, investigate, taste and have fun.

Holiday Children's University ‘Rainforest Research Workshop’ (autumn holidays)

- Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
The researchers explore the diversity of plants, animals and people ‘under palm trees’. ‘Why does it rain in the rainforest?’ ‘What does my schnitzel have to do with the rainforest?’ ‘How do children live elsewhere?’ They experiment, play and explore an ecosystem with all their senses.
