Contested History(ies): Right-wing historical revisionism in an interdisciplinary perspective and in international comparison

Contested history(ies): Interdisciplinary memory research in the context of global, anti-democratic backlashes

Democratic cultures of remembrance are coming under increasing pressure worldwide. Against this backdrop, the research network "Contested History(ies)" is investigating the impact of historical revisionist movements in Germany, Argentina and Spain. The project examines how new-right movements systematically question established images of history and cultures of remembrance and attack progressive achievements of democratic societies. The focus is on investigating the use of cultural narratives and social media for the dissemination of historical revisionist and anti-democratic interpretations of the past.
A special feature of the project is the close cooperation between academia, didactics and practice: together with educational institutions, cultural institutions and civil society organizations, practical counter-strategies and mediation ideas are being developed. The network "Umkämpfte Geschichte(n)" thus makes a significant contribution to the protection of democratic values in times of political polarization and contributes to the development of a resilient, pluralistic and inclusive culture of remembrance.
