Hazelnut cultivation: a niche with a future

Hazelnuts grow in Germany; in local structures, regional nut farmers are finding increasing sales for their nuts. Hazelnuts are part of a healthy diet. The Section ‘Organic Farming and Cropping Systems’ at the University of Kassel is organizing a conference on hazelnuts in cooperation with Herbert Knuppen from the company Neue Obstsorten. The focus will be on new findings on crop management, questions on modern plant protection and an overview of experiences in our neighboring countries. A field visit will round off the conference. The aim of this conference is to collect and pool existing knowledge and experience. The question of the right combination of varieties, the form of cultivation and crop management are some of the tasks that need to be solved.

The aim of this conference in the beautiful cherry town of Witzenhausen is to demonstrate that hazelnut cultivation is profitable in Germany. To advance this goal, measures in the areas of information management, networking and knowledge transfer are important, as are new developments and approaches to pest control.

The conference will take place from noon to noon with an overnight stay. This gives the opportunity to exchange experiences and new ideas together in the evening after the lecture program in "Schinkels Backhaus". In the afternoon of the second day, a company can be visited.

The event will be held in German.
