Electrical Engineering (Bachelor)

How do you generate electrical energy? How can it be stored and transported? How can it be used efficiently and sustainably? In which technical, mobile and networked systems is electricity used? When getting to know electrical engineering in the basic studies, the focus is not only on questions of energy technology, but also on the use of electricity in almost all areas of modern life, including components and materials of electrical engineering, digital logic, switching and control technology, programming, theoretical and mathematical principles.

The bachelor's program trains technically interested and mathematically gifted students in recognized engineering fundamentals and imparts specialized knowledge that plays an increasing role in almost all areas of life and work. Whether it is communication technology or software development, electrical drives, automation or sustainable energy supply - electrical engineers shape people's everyday lives in many industries. Current issues of resource conservation and clean energy generation are particularly in focus in Kassel. The demand for qualified personnel is high, and career opportunities are very good, especially in leading regional industrial companies.

In the six-semester course, students are taught application-oriented and theoretical specialist knowledge, practical skills and the fundamentals of scientific work. A large part of the courses is accompanied by practical training in laboratories or by independent student teamwork. Personal interests and the fun of dealing with practical applications are not neglected: In AG's it is about the use of microcontrollers, 3D printers or the Hercules Racing Team. Starting in the fifth semester, students focus on either electrical energy systems (mobile or networked), electronics and photonics, information and communication technology, or measurement and control technology.

There are interdisciplinary points of contact and smooth transitions during the electrical engineering program, especially with the subjects of computer science (the "computer science" is located in the same department) and mechatronics. The bachelor's program qualifies students for a subsequent four-semester master's program.
