History and the Public (Master)

The MA program "History and the Public Sphere" is divided into two study areas:

On the one hand, the research-oriented subject-thematic module area A deals with essential dimensions of society/culture and corresponding levels of access to history from antiquity to immediate contemporary history. Here you will acquire in-depth knowledge about the influence of ideas, ideologies and social processes, about the role of individual and structural factors in history and about the significance of space and time for historical processes.

On the other hand, the methodological-practical module area B teaches professional skills in the written and oral presentation and communication of historical research in various media contexts and genres. To this end, existing collaborations with archives, museums and institutions in the city of Kassel and the region are used and further collaborations are specifically expanded. These qualification goals are supported firstly by the compulsory internship, which offers you a special insight into practice and which can be completed at one of the cooperating institutions, for example, and secondly by the opportunity to complete a semester abroad, which is anchored in the curriculum, as well as by the acquisition of key skills.
