Teaching degree at Hauptschulen and Realschulen (first state examination)

The course trains secondary school teachers in two subjects, which can be freely selected and combined from the range of subjects on offer.

For the subjects of art, music and sport, an artistic entrance examination or a practical sports aptitude test must be passed. In addition to the teaching subjects, the core study program in education and social sciences is a compulsory part of the teacher training program at the University of Kassel. Graduates with the First State Examination for Teaching at Hauptschulen and Realschulen can apply for the preparatory teaching service. This is organized by state authorities, in Hesse by the Hessian Teachers' Academy, and takes place at study seminars and training schools. After the preparatory service, the second state examination is taken, which includes the teaching qualification for the teaching profession at Hauptschulen and Realschulen.
