You must pass an aptitude test at the University of Kassel in order to be accepted onto the music teaching degree program. In the aptitude test, you demonstrate your previous training and your development potential on a chord instrument and in singing and, if applicable, another instrument. We do not require top artistic performance, but careful preparation that shows that you meet the requirements of the desired profession.

Artistic-practical part

Instrumental playing and singing

In the practical part of the aptitude test, you present yourself in the areas of singing, piano and instrumental playing, depending on the chosen school level and main artistic subject. Information on the possible subject combinations and detailed descriptions of the requirements can be found in the information sheets.

Technical discussion

The committee will conduct an interview with you in which you explain your motivation for studying to become a music teacher. You can talk about your musical preferences and experiences and, if applicable, your own pedagogical activities (choir work, rehearsals in a youth orchestra, band work, etc.). The commission would also like to hear about your artistic and musical interests and music-related knowledge. By presenting your knowledge of the works you have performed in the instrumental examination, we can discuss general musical questions.
