To live, people need an environment that is healthy in every respect. Therefore, environmental engineers have to take care of many areas: For example, water management, waste recycling and environmentally sound waste disposal, soil protection and remediation of contaminated sites, traffic, air pollution control, climate protection, and environmental and quality management.
The bachelor's program lasts seven semesters and provides an overview of technical solutions in the complex contexts of environmental engineering. Ecological aspects are linked with the economic and practice-oriented tasks of engineering. This innovative approach of the University of Kassel is in great demand in the working world: environmental engineers work in research, industry, engineering offices and in public administration.
During the course of study, students acquire the competence to understand environmentally relevant procedures, processes, methods and plants, and to calculate, design, evaluate, compare and further develop them using scientific methods. In the first semesters, engineering fundamentals such as mathematics and mechanics are taught. Subsequently, students deepen their knowledge in the fields of resource management and waste engineering, urban water management, hydraulic engineering and water management, and transportation. They thus acquire detailed knowledge and competent skills in the field of environmental engineering. The engineering internship can be completed in companies, engineering offices, administrations or with private sponsors. Here, contacts are often made with future employers. The bachelor's degree qualifies students for direct employment or for admission to a subsequent master's degree program. Those interested should have some knowledge of math - a preliminary course refreshes this.
