Statement on the "comfort women" statue erected by students

The university management supports the students' wish to use this statue as a general reminder of the wartime atrocities of sexualized violence, particularly against women and girls. However, this is not limited to events during the Second World War, but also serves as a reminder in light of the current war in Ukraine and other war events around the world and focuses on the suffering of all victims of systematic sexualized violence as a war crime. In order to facilitate a more far-reaching discourse among students and to highlight this comprehensive perspective in their studies, the presentation of the comfort women statue has been and will be integrated into AStA events and courses at the university. It has been agreed with the AStA that the statue can be exhibited in front of the Student House until the end of the winter semester.
