Green Off?

Since July 2022, the Green Office at the University of Kassel has opened its doors in the middle of the HoPla campus. Based on the sustainability concept adopted in 2022, we are positioning ourselves as a central point of contact for information, networking and implementation, involving students and employees and initiating measures together with the departments and facilities - with the aim of creating awareness and making the university more sustainable overall.

With the awareness campaign "We act together" and three action days, we sent out an early signal for energy saving in the first winter. This was followed by many events and campaigns such as the organization of the DGHochN annual conference, water action days, Earth Day, Mobility Week, Campus Clean Up and much more.

The Green Office enabled students and employees to become actively involved in the sustainability process at the University of Kassel. Our ideas workshops, Sustain Groups, the Project Seminar I: Go Green, the Project Factory ideas platform and our funding for student sustainability projects all helped to establish this. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed so enthusiastically!

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated team of student assistants, who have actively supported us over the entire period!

A lot has been implemented since then - including drinking water dispensers, energy tours, the Sustain Tour, an amendment to the business travel policy, duplex printing on photocopiers, the materials exchanges at the ASL department and the School of Art, deposit rings, the sustainability city map, lockable bicycle parking facilities, the framework agreement for sustainable catering and a concept for sustainable open space design, which we presented in the Campus Center in October with the Coole Plätze campaign days. The open space planner for the North Campus has also further developed his concept with climate impact in mind. By the end of 2026, a group of trees in front of the ASL, more greenery at LEO and perennial beds between the Campus Center and Wiso C will be visible.

We have regularly reported on sustainability developments via the Sustainable Operations Steering Committee. We are particularly pleased with the numerous projects that have been initiated by the departments and facilities: From used furniture storage, the procurement of environmentally friendly cleaning agents and new e-vehicles to optimized waste separation in the campus library or free drinking water dispensers in the canteen - the topic of sustainability has been implemented everywhere in our own work areas.

The Green Office has become a focal point for sustainability in the company and on campus. We connect, inform and support. Many thanks to everyone for their cooperation, good contacts and support so far!
