The conclusion of the symposium "Education and upbringing in times of war" will be a public panel discussion entitled "...serving the peace of the world! The role of the Bundeswehr in schools and society - between security policy reality and democratic peace mission".
with Jochen Neumann (Bund für soziale Verteidigung), Michael Schulze von Glaßer (DfG-VK), Lola Paul (Jugendbündnis gegen Wehrpflicht), Prof. Dr. Olaf Sanders (Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg) and Michael Nann (Ev. Akademie Hofgeismar), among others
What moves society also shapes everyday school life: news about wars, rising arms spending and security policy debates are reflected in conversations with children, young people and parents. Many pupils also bring their own experiences of war, flight or family involvement to the classroom - others react to the daily news with concern, feelings of powerlessness or political polarization. Educators are therefore faced with the challenge of addressing these topics in the classroom, opening up space for questions and emotions and at the same time fulfilling their mandate to provide democratic education and promote peace.
With the symposium "Bildung und Erziehungin kriegerischen Zeiten", the Department of Didactics of Political Education at the University of Kassel, the Evangelische Akademie Hofgeismar and the GEW Kassel-Stadt are jointly creating a space for exchange, reflection and concrete perspectives for action.
