Anniversary exhibitions: 50 years of architecture - urban planning - landscape planning at the University of Kassel

The Kassel Model 1973-2023
In 1973, the new comprehensive university in Kassel initiated the reform courses of Architecture, Urban Planning and Landscape Planning. The "Kassel Model" challenged traditional pedagogical concepts, institutional structures and subject content. It pursued a strong social agenda and rethought the relationship between science, planning and society. The appointment of young, innovative university lecturers also underpinned the spirit of optimism in terms of personnel. Kassel made a name for itself in the German university landscape as a radical educational experiment, which in the years that followed gave rise to numerous professional innovations that had a lasting impact on the disciplines. Even back then, many topics were initiated that have taken on a new urgency today in the face of climate change and the Anthropocene. The department is taking its 50th anniversary as an opportunity to look back on its own history with a series of exhibitions and to ask itself what relevance the experiments of that time have for us today.

Exhibition: Searching for traces - urban nature and urban climate in Kassel
The exhibition draws connections between Kassel's urban nature and urban climate debates of the last 50 years and today's issues. Can traces of the projects on urban nature or urban climate initiated in Kassel still be found today? Are they still relevant?
