Introduction and start of studies

At the University of Kassel there is not the an introductory event. Rather, there is an extensive offer of different "Veranstalter:innen":

• On the one hand, the departments offer an official program. This type of introductory event is about the subject of study: What is this subject thematically about? Which majors are offered in Kassel? Which professors and subject areas determine the content? So: by all means attend and ask questions!
• For some (not all) courses and subjects we recommend participation in preliminary courses. Pre-courses are aimed at first-year students who would like to refresh their knowledge in certain subjects. The preliminary courses start before the introduction dates.
• Often the student councils also offer introductory courses. The student council is part of the student self-organization and deals with the specific questions of the students of a department. In terms of content, it deals with questions about the course of studies, the organization of the curriculum, the organization of learning and examinations. The student councils thus offer help with the question of how best to study this subject.
• In addition, there are "welcome events": First Semester Welcome, offers for students with children, offers for international students.

Important terms explained

The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers you the opportunity to take a free preliminary course in mathematics before the start of your first semester. A total of seven different pre-courses in mathematics (tailored to the respective course of study) are offered. The courses last between four to six weeks and take place before the actual start of lectures.

The Intensive 1 or Compact 1/2 pre-course is recommended for this degree program.

Participation in the mathematics test, which is administered by FB 10, is a compulsory part of the study program for first-year students of electrical engineering, computer science, vocational education (specialization in electrical engineering) and plusMINT (this applies to all examination regulations). To prepare for this test, we recommend that you attend one of our mathematics pre-courses.

Hello you,

we are glad that you have found your way to FB 16 of the University of Kassel. We, the student council of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, are a group of students who work for your interests and issues as a student in their free time. If you have questions about your studies, need help communicating with a professor or just want to exchange experiences over a cup of coffee or tea, you are welcome to drop by.
