Introduction and start of studies

There is not just one introductory event at the University of Kassel. Rather, there is an extensive range of different "organizers":

• On the one hand, the departments offer an official program. This type of introduction is about the subject: What is the subject about? What specializations are offered in Kassel? Which Professors and subject areas determine the content? So: be sure to attend and ask questions!
• For some (not all) degree programs and subjects, we recommend attending preliminary courses. Pre-courses are aimed at first-year students who would like to refresh their knowledge in certain subjects. The preliminary courses start before the introductory dates.
• The student councils often also offer introductory events. The student council is part of the student self-organization and deals with the specific questions of the students of a department. In terms of content, it deals with questions about the course of studies, the organization of the curriculum, learning organization and examinations. The student councils therefore offer help on how best to study this subject.
• There are also "welcome events": First semester welcome, offers for students with children, offers for international students.

Important terms explained

We would like to welcome you to the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Kassel and would like to provide you with important information in advance on behalf of the Spanish language practice.
A prerequisite for admission to the degree course in Hispanic Studies at the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Kassel is proof of knowledge of Spanish at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
However, in order to be able to study successfully, it is important that you develop your language skills quickly after starting your studies so that you can easily use Spanish at level B1, both to successfully complete the individual modules of language practice and to participate in the courses of the specialist sciences. We support you in this with special language practice courses, which are known as propaedeutic courses and are taught exclusively by native speakers. Within the first winter semester, you will reach level B1 through a combination of block courses and regular weekly sessions. You can see the exact structure of this offer below.
If you can already demonstrate level B1, it is possible to attend the courses of the first language practice module directly. If you have an even higher language level, please take part in the placement test scheduled immediately before the start of the semester (15.10.2025 /14:00 - 16:00, Kurt Wolters Str 5 Room 0020) in order to find a suitable entry point into the language practice modules.

Dear first semester students,

Welcome to the University of Kassel and to Faculty 02! To make it easier for you to start your studies, we have prepared a three-day program for you, including a campus tour and joint timetabling - by students for students. We will meet on the first day (07.10.2025) at 10 a.m. in front of Diagonale 1 and then go together to the room designated for the next part. Please note that the different parts of the introduction may take place in different locations and you may be divided into groups.
