Change of university

If you are currently studying a Bachelor's degree in Psychology at another university and would like to transfer to the University of Kassel, you can find out here how to apply for a higher semester. Even if you meet the relevant requirements, you can only be admitted if there is a free place available.

Please note! Please read the following information carefully before applying (as of November 2025)

Since the winter semester 2020/21, we have been offering the professionally recognized polyvalent Bachelor of Psychology according to the PsychThG of 2020 at the University of Kassel. This qualifies you for a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy with a final licensing examination if you complete an elective module and the professional internship in the clinical field.

Lateral entry into a higher semester of the polyvalent B.Sc. in Psychology at the University of Kassel is only possible if, in addition to the modules and requirements listed below, you can provide evidence of the content required by the licensing regulations. You can find the mandatory content required by the licensing regulations and the content that you must prove independently and in detail in the licensing regulations for psychotherapists (PsychThApprO), our module handbook and summarized in the table "Content relevant to licensing by module". Please read the table carefully before submitting an application and make a note on the "Module comparison" document where you can find proof of this (e.g. page in the module handbook, certificate from the university). You cannot transfer to our degree program without proof of these contents.

Please note that a certain number of credits in subjects taught at the University of Kassel must also be proven for entry into a higher semester. Here too, modules can only be credited if they have taught the content relevant to licensing. For an overview, please also use the table "Content relevant to licensing by module" and our module handbook, which will give you an overview of the content to be proven if you wish to have one of the modules listed there credited in Kassel.

For all credit transfers, both the content equivalence (correspondence of the module descriptions with the module content of the University of Kassel) and the formal equivalence (e.g. correspondence of the ECTS) are checked. When completing the "Module comparison" table, it is therefore essential that you compare your module descriptions with our module handbook. If the content and formalities of your modules deviate significantly from this, recognition is not possible.

The procedure consists of two steps:

1. Online application to the University of Kassel
   and at the same time
2. Application for placement in the higher semester using the forms listed below at the Psychology Examination Office
   (individual certificates of achievement that are missing by the deadline (e.g. individual final module grades) can be submitted after the deadline until 28.02./31.08.).
3. In the event that your application for the winter semester is rejected, you can apply for the first semester at the same time. Unfortunately, this is not possible for the summer semester.

Deadline for submission of complete and up-to-date documents for the summer semester: 15.12. to 15.01.

Deadline for submission of complete and up-to-date documents for winter semester: 15.06. to 15.07.

Documents that are not complete or up-to-date (max. 4 weeks old) cannot be processed. It can take up to two months to process the documents. The letter of recognition will be sent to you and to the Registrar's Office. It is not necessary for you to send it in.

Please read all information carefully and submit all relevant documents.

Submit the following documents to the Psychology Examination Office:

• Form 1 - Application for placement in the higher semester

• Certificate of no objection
• Module comparison - Comparison of the achievements for the Bachelor's degree in Psychology
• Your previous examination regulations incl. module handbook
• Stamped and signed transcript of records of your previous achievements
• If you are studying at a university of applied sciences or similar, we require proof that it is a university equivalent to a German university.
