FAQs during your studies

A laptop is the technical equipment of choice!

Why: An essential part of studying psychology is learning how to work empirically and scientifically. The statistical analysis of data sets plays a major role in this. As a rule, the free statistical software R is used here, which cannot be used sensibly on all devices. In particular, many tablets are not able to run the software. When choosing a device, we therefore recommend that you ensure that the device supports a fully-fledged operating system (i.e. Windows, MacOS or Linux).

If you received your admission very late or your matriculation number was sent to you very late, please contact the Examinations Office regarding the course allocation. It is best to send an email stating which courses you would like to take and which alternatives you could accept.

In any case, you must study modules 1 - 3 according to the study plan. If you do not pass an examination at the first attempt, you will usually be offered a second examination opportunity in the same semester. This means that you can still keep to the standard period of study. If you do not complete one of the above-mentioned modules within the period specified in the study plan, your studies will be extended by at least one year.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that the courses of the different academic years will not overlap. We therefore recommend that you follow the study plan or consult the student advisory service.

If for any reason you are unable to study according to the recommended study plan, please contact the Student Advisory Service. They will help you to create an individual timetable.

The registration phase for first semester courses usually begins later than that of the higher semesters.

You can usually register for first semester courses until Thursday 11:59 p.m. of the orientation week.

All our events are usually offered on an annual basis. The following events are excluded from this:

Examination regulations 2020:

• Module 1 Subject hours can be taken whenever they are offered.
• Module 14 Seminars - seminars with different content are offered every semester.
• Module 20 You can start with Module 20 every semester from WS 22/23. You can complete part of this module in one semester.
• Module 21 You can complete the orientation internship (if you wish to gain a license to practice medicine) from the 1st semester. If you have 60 ECTS credits, you can complete BQT I or the professional internship without a license to practice. Internships can be completed during the lecture-free period or as part-time internships during the lecture period.
• Module 22 You can start the Bachelor's thesis every semester. You need 150 ECTS or are in the 6th semester, modules 1-5 should have been completed. Applications are possible on 01.04. and 01.10.

You only have to submit a medical certificate if you are requested to do so by the Examination Office. This may be the case from the second sick note for an examination.

Costs

The costs for a medical certificate must be borne by you.

Would you like to have the non-psychology elective module / supplementary subject recognized (non-approbation-compliant)?

• Please complete the 2nd page of the form.
• Contact the person responsible for the module (currently Priscilla Achaa-Amankwaa) and find out how to proceed. As a rule, the module coordinator of the subject in question must first confirm that the content is equivalent. Once this has been confirmed, the form can be signed by Ms. Ende
  • Please bring the following documents with you or send them by email:
    certified transcript of records in German/English
    module handbook in German/English
• Please note that you need 8 credits. If you are awarded fewer credits, please find out right away which additional courses you need to attend.
• Please submit the signed form to the examination office of the Institute of Psychology.

You will find your recognized credits in your transcript of records some time later.

Most psychological Master's programs only start in the winter semester. If you complete your studies in March, this means that you will probably not have student status in the summer semester.

This may have a financial impact:

• no student ticket
  • Public transport
  • Canteen meals
  • Various discounts at events
• health insurance
• Income (scholarship, Bafög)

The following applies to students who started in the winter semester 2020/21 and are studying according to the new examination regulations

Internships that were completed before the start of the degree program can be credited towards the four-week orientation internship upon application by the student if the internship took place in interdisciplinary healthcare facilities where psychotherapists work. If you are interested in studying abroad, we recommend the last two semesters of your degree program.

The module coordinators will be happy to recognize modules completed abroad as soon as they have similar content to our modules. However, please discuss recognition with the relevant module coordinators before your stay abroad.
