Selection criteria for the Bachelor's degree program in Psychology

In the Bachelor's degree program in Psychology, the following selection criteria are used to form the "university selection procedure" quota for the application procedure in accordance with the statutes:

  1. 38% of the grade of the university entrance qualification
  2. the result (percentage rank) of the study aptitude test (49%)
  3. the indication of a school subject at 13

These selection criteria are used to calculate a procedural grade, which is then included in the "university selection procedure" quota. This means that 38% of the grade of your university entrance qualification is included in the procedural grade. The grade of the result of the aptitude test accounts for 49% and the grade that results if you can provide information on a school subject accounts for 13%.

Selection criteria

1. grade of the university entrance qualification

The grade of the university entrance qualification is the overall average grade shown on your school report entitling you to study.

2. result (percentage rank) of the study aptitude test

The BaPsy-DGPs is a standardized central student selection test that will be introduced at most German universities in the winter semester 23/24 and represents a supplementary, valid admission criterion for studying psychology. The BaPsy-DGPs consists of a general section to measure reasoning skills and a specific section to measure text comprehension and skills in English and Mathematics. All components are necessary for a successful degree in psychology.
As a result of the test, you will receive a percentile rank, which is converted into a grade using the formula ((100 percentile rank)*0.05)+1. The calculated grade is then included in the procedural grade with 49%. If the voluntary test is not taken, the criterion is included in the procedural grade with a grade of 6.

3. course-related school subject

Only the following subjects are considered to be relevant to the degree program:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • German, English
  • English
If you can provide evidence of one of the above school subjects in your university entrance qualification (Abitur/ Fachabitur), this will be included in the calculation of the procedural grade with a 3.0. If you can even prove that one of the subjects is an advanced course (usually only in the Abitur, not in the Fachabi), this will be included with a grade of 1.0. The actual grade you achieved in the subject is irrelevant. If you did not have any of the above-mentioned subjects in your university entrance qualification, the criterion is included in the procedural grade with a grade of 6.

When is a subject an advanced course subject?

  • A distinction is made between advanced courses and non-advanced courses.
  • There are generally no advanced courses at Fachoberschulen. Applicants from this type of school are therefore not normally able to specify advanced courses.
  • The term "Leistungskurse" or "LKs" is not used uniformly throughout Germany. Therefore, the following designations are also recognized:
    • LK = advanced course
    • LF = advanced subject
    • P1 = courses at advanced level (in Saxony-Anhalt)
    • Extra advanced course block on the certificate
    • eA = increased requirement level
    • *) = increased requirement
    • 1) = Abitur subjects with increased requirement profile
    • P = profile subject (only Abitur Baden-Württemberg, regulation before 2010)
    • N = inclination subject (only Abitur Baden-Württemberg, regulation before 2010)
    • W = elective core subject (only Abitur Baden-Württemberg, regulation from 2010)
    • K = Core subject (only Abitur Baden-Württemberg, regulation from 2010)
