Step-by-step instructions

1. 1.Information and advice

   You can familiarize yourself with the structure of the degree course on the homepage of the sub-degree course in Music. On the homepage of the Institute of Music you will also find information about the various subject areas represented at the Institute, the artistic, academic and pedagogical teaching staff as well as ensembles and current events.

   Find out about the procedure and requirements of the aptitude tests as well as the application modalities.

2. 2.Registration for the aptitude test

   You must submit your application for the entrance exam along with the required documents by September 15.

   Since the L1, L2, L3, and L5 degree programs cover very different professional fields and therefore require different aptitude tests, we ask that you apply for only one teacher education program.

   Please submit the completed application form and your application materials by September 15, 2026.

   Applicants with international diplomas must apply for the entrance exam through uni-assist by September 15, 2026. Please also note the information regarding proof of German language proficiency.

3. 3.Preparation for the aptitude test

   We offer a range of aids to help you prepare for the aptitude test:

   - Sample tasks and information sheets on the aptitude tests

   - A preliminary discussion with the student representatives (student council) in which you go through the exam situation in advance

   - Participation in the student council's preparation weekend

   - Discussions with our student advisor

   - Contact with our instrumental teachers, for example to get advice on suitable examination pieces.

4. 4.Suitability test

   After we have checked your complete application documents received by the deadline, we will invite you to the aptitude test for your respective school level. The exam usually takes place on a weekend (Friday/Saturday) in June or July.

   We will let you know whether you have passed the aptitude test following your practical examination.

5. 5.Application and enrollment

   With the proof that you have passed the aptitude test, which we will send to you by post, you can apply within two years for the music course of the respective school level.
