Information about Erasmus
The ERASMUS+ program offers students the opportunity to study at a European partner university for one or two semesters. An Erasmus stay is a good way to make a stay abroad a reality. Funding is available for stays of 2-12 months per study phase (BA / MA / PhD) and includes the waiving of tuition fees at the partner universities. Further details and information can be found here.

Study abroad
If you are a sports student interested in or want to apply for an ERASMUS study year abroad, please proceed as follows:
Step 1 - Inform yourself
First find out about ERASMUS in good time (approx. 18 months before the planned stay abroad) on the relevant pages of the International Office and about the partner universities of the University of Kassel(https://www.uni-kassel.de/uni/studium/im-studium/studium-und-praktikum-im-ausland/auslandsstudium.html; enter "Sport" as the subject)
To participate in the ERASMUS program, you must be enrolled in a degree program at the University of Kassel and should have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction at the host university. In many cases, knowledge of English is sufficient.
The International Office will advise you on forms of funding and not on subject-specific aspects of your stay abroad (Erasmus+ includes a country-specific scholarship).
Step 2 - Choose university and degree program
Choose a suitable degree program at a partner university. Obtain information material from the partner universities by doing your own research on the Internet.
If you have specific questions after you have gained an overview or would like to submit a specific application, please contact the ERASMUS contact persons listed above. They will provide you with information material and individual information on the application procedure.
Step 3 - Apply
After receiving detailed information from the ERASMUS contact persons and choosing one of our partner universities, you must first apply. The following documents are required for this:
Letter of motivation
curriculum vitae
Overview of the courses you have taken so far (HIS excerpt)
List of the desired courses at the foreign partner university
Language certificate (only if required by the partner university)
Step 4 - Meet the deadline!
Submit all application documents in one coherent pdf. document by email to lisa.maurer[at]uni-kassel[dot]de by
January 15 for stays starting in the winter semester of the following academic year (e.g.: If you apply by January 15, 2026, you can go abroad in the winter semester 2026/27 or in the summer semester 2027 at the earliest).
If there are any remaining places, a subsequent nomination may be possible. Remaining places will be announced by the International Office under Partner Universities/Remaining Places.
Step 5 - Confirm your study place
If you have been selected, you must confirm your study place and you will then be nominated by the IfSS at the partner university.
You will then receive information on the further procedure and the scholarship directly from the International Office and the partner university.
