In research and teaching, organic agriculture and plant production has to be investigated holistically in farming systems with and without animal husbandry, based on natural- and production-scientific as well as agro-ecological principals. Experimental research approaches have to be applied with a focus on field experimentation and a connectivity to modelling approaches and are expected to lead to the development of innovative, sustainable cultivation systems. The willingness to include systemic approaches along the value chains and to participate in and initiate interdisciplinary cooperation are important requirements.

 

The successful candidate has to be committed to the development and teaching of innovative modules in the German-language BSc and MSc programs ”Ökologische Landwirtschaft” and in the English-language MSc program “Sustainable International Agriculture”. This includes basics of planning, development and evaluation of cultivation systems on organic farms as well as further topics such as soil fertility, environmental impacts of organic farming and the combination of organic farming and nature conservation.

 

Applicants must have a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements with a focus on organic agriculture and plant cultivation or related scientific fields as well as experience in teaching with proof of their didactic abilities. They must have an expertise in the fields of agricultural and plant cultivation systems and systemic approaches for the analysis and development of innovative sustainable cultivation systems proven by relevant, peer-reviewed publications and the successful acquisition of research funds. The publications also have to demonstrate the capability in conducting interdisciplinary research. It is desirable that the professorship also addresses questions of organic vegetable production. Knowledge transfer and policy advice should complement the profile of the professorship. It is planned that the professorship plays a deciscive role in shaping the “Hessian State Domain Frankenhausen”, including the experimental station, and should possibly take over the scientific management of the facility.

 

The employment and performance requirements apply pursuant to §§ 61, 62 of the Higher Education Act of Hessen (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz). The participation in the self-administration of the university is expected.
