Naming competition for new building for self-organized learning at the University of Kassel

The two-story building is being constructed on the university's central campus at Holländischer Platz and will go into operation next November under the roof of the Teaching Service Center. The construction costs amount to 5.4 million euros. The main usable area of the building, designed by the Kassel office of Atelier 30 Architekten, is approximately 950 square meters, including the covered terraces. The previous provisional name "Self-Study Center" is considered too bulky.

Students can still submit a name suggestion until September 25 via the Moodle learning platform and thus immortalize themselves on campus. The new name will then be announced at the ceremonial opening of the building in November. Proposals that are original, meaningful and easy to understand have a particularly good chance of being accepted. In the broadest sense, the name should indicate the self-organized learning and working in the study. All students who have submitted the final name will be entered into a draw to win a 100-euro consumption voucher for the "LernBar" located in the new building.

Various "learning landscapes" will be created on the two floors of the building. On the first floor, open learning areas and a cafeteria will be set up. On the upper floor, students can then study more quietly at individual workstations. Learning cabins are available for small groups, with open, roofed cubes on the sides. Spherical hanging chairs will be installed for relaxing during study breaks.

In the future, the new building on the central campus of the University of Kassel at Holländischer Platz will offer space for up to 400 students to study, work and relax independently. In addition, workshops and consultations on learning techniques, scientific writing and similar topics related to learning will be offered in the building.
