Education researcher Regina Egetenmeyer new member of university council

"Lifelong learning is indispensable for societies and has become a substantial part of universities' tasks," said University of Kassel President Prof. Reiner Finkeldey. "With Regina Egetenmeyer, we are bringing great expertise to the University Council here. We will also benefit from her experience as a former junior professor in the implementation of the tenure-track program and the associated 'cultural change'. I am also proud that our University Council now has gender parity."

Egetenmeyer studied graduate education, special education, Indonesian philology, sociology and psychology, received her doctorate from the University of Duisburg-Essen with a thesis on informal learning in corporate learning cultures, and first worked as an assistant professor at the University of Mainz. Since 2013, she has been a professor of adult education/further education at the University of Würzburg. Her research interests include professionalization in adult education/continuing education, international comparative adult education research, lifelong learning, European education policy, and digitization in adult education/continuing education.

In addition to many other functions and memberships, Egetenmeyer has been chairwoman of the Council of Continuing Education - KAW, the federal association of providers of general, political, vocational and scientific continuing education in Germany, since last year.

With Egetenmeyer, the Presidential Board appointed the long-time chairman of the University Council, Prof. Dr. Wilfried Müller, as a member for another two years until August 2022. Müller was rector of the University of Bremen until 2012. Dr. Annette Beller's term was also extended, for four years. Beller is Chief Financial Officer of the medical technology manufacturer B. Braun Melsungen.

Background:

In accordance with the Hessian Higher Education Act, the University Council accompanies the university in its development, articulates the expectations that exist in the professional world and promotes the use of scientific knowledge and artistic achievements. Among other things, it has a right of initiative on fundamental university matters and must approve development planning.
