Among students, the location library in Menzelstraße is a popular place to study. The coveted quiet individual workstations with a view of the greenery of the Karlsaue are now joined by additional attractive learning areas that have what it takes to become the university library's veritable new favorite place.

The space extends over two levels, which, what's new, can be reached via two separate entrances. On the lower level is the service area, particularly for short stays such as picking up and borrowing media, etc. Here there are standing areas with user computers for research and a lounge area for study breaks. There are also places for communicative work in small groups. The upper level is intended as a learning space for quiet and concentrated work. Here, outside of the current restrictions, 32 learning spaces can be reserved online via a space booking system, ensuring learning at the desired times.

The UB location was closed for a total of nine months. Urgent renovations were carried out during the event-free and pandemic closure periods. Beginning in late June 2020, fire protection, lighting, and electrical and digital connections were brought up to the latest safety and technology standards. In addition, a pre-built gallery was incorporated into the library space.

The design of the new learning areas also took into account, among other things, the design principles of Paul Friedrich Posenenske, the architect of the art academy, in order to continue the overall effect of his concept in the library. With the completion and reopening, the site library's total of 66,000 media are once again available for use on site. A large part of them had been stored away or packed away in dust-proof containers for the duration of the renovation.

The team in the Menzelstrasse is available for consultation and service during the currently still limited opening hours, Mondays to Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
