Presentation of the Rundgang Awards in the GRIMMWELT

On Sunday (July 25, 2021), the tour of the Kunsthochschule Kassel came to an end. At this year's tour, entitled "Decentralized Art Enjoyment," art enthusiasts were able to explore numerous artistic positions of students both online and analog on site in Kassel's urban space as well as in the studios of the Kunsthochschule, taking into account hygiene regulations. In addition to the exhibition of current student works, performances, film screenings and a variety of other activities, the program also included an award ceremony.

Each year at the end of the tour, the School of Art awards several art prizes to its students, made possible by the sponsorship of its long-time partners. The prize money directly benefits the winners and recognizes the work they present at the walk. The sponsors of the awards are: Birgitt-Bolsmann, HÜBNER GmbH & Co. KG, Kasseler Sparkasse, SV SparkassenVersicherung Holding AG and Universitätsgesellschaft Kassel e.V.

This year's jury was composed of: Reza Afisina (artist and member of ruangroupa and ruruHaus documenta fifteen), Manuela Greipel (GRIMMWELT Kassel, Project Management Exhibitions), Iswanto Hartono (artist and member of ruangroupa and ruruHaus documenta fifteen), Marco Krummenacher (Kulturhaus Dock 4, managing director), Danijel Matijević (Fridericianum, curatorial assistance), Daniel Opper (University of Kassel, head of UniKasselTransfer), Julia Schleis (Fridericianum, curator).

The jury members of this year's KhK tour highly recognize the totality of the achievements of all participating students: "In particular, we would like to acknowledge their dedication and autonomy in creating individual works, collective projects, and collaborative forms of presentation, given the challenges that the pandemic poses on a personal and societal level. We are impressed and inspired by the creative polyphony of student collaboration across classes, disciplines, and institutions throughout the city, reclaiming public space and exemplifying a sense of community togetherness."

2021 Award Winner:

SV SparkassenVersicherung Holding AG (EUR 2,500)
Languages and Beyond Versus Hairless Chauvinism organized by Al Solh class in collaboration with Annette Weisser:

• Collaborative diversity of participants (organizers, speakers, artists, audience, etc.).
• Inclusion of pressing social issues of gender, language, body, health and their intersectional entanglement in the question of care in precarious times of pandemics (Corona and HIV)
• Diverse artistic, social, and research programs that focus on togetherness as exemplified by the collective potentials of diverse communities

Ratanke by the collective Goldfish AG (Zora Jöst, Tobias Lob, a.o.):

• Self-organized meeting place through cross-class student collaborations that reclaims public space in the city and facilitates a variety of both artistic and collaborative projects
• Merging art, politics, and activism with a focus on social issues such as togetherness, shared responsibility, ecological-economic sustainability, and caring for one another

Birgitt Bolsmann Prize (1,100 EUR)
Business as Usual by Frauke Rohenkohl with Christiane Muñoz and Jonas Brust:

• An aesthetically as well as thematically convincing multimedia artwork that reveals the mostly invisible transit spaces of global economies and confronts us with our entanglement in the globalized traffic of goods and its production.
• the whole is translated into a spatial structure of metal slides, photographs, a video work and a sound piece that manifests the global and local inextricability of commodity production and movement - then and now.

Universitätsgesellschaft Kassel e.V. (750 EUR)
Chiral laboratory for manual intermediates of class New Media:

• the project is exemplary for the collaboration of art and natural sciences and for their productive exchange, which generates new insights as well as inspiration and innovation on both sides

new art city by Klasse Animation, Games and New Media:

• Virtual exhibition platform that provides access to creative worlds of new media, animation and game design through the digital in times of analog limitations due to the pandemic.

Kasseler Sparkasse (500 EUR)
Talkie Walkie presented by Basisklasse Bildende Kunst:

• Engaging collaborative project by students in the basic visual arts class that invites participation.
• Bridging gaps between people after long social distance, digital encounters and reoccupation of real space by strolling together

Koma Klar - Digital Burnout presented by class Virtual Realities:

• important critical research and commentary on our current pandemic era and its dangers to our personal and societal health
• a forceful warning against the systematic fear of stagnation and a post-pandemic plea for the reoccupation of refuges of regeneration

HÜBNER GmbH & Co. KG (500 EUR)
fox and hawk:

• Innovative eco-friendly design, sustainable and socially responsible production.
• Circular economy model

Textile composites:

• Cross-institutional and interdisciplinary project focusing on artistic-experimental innovation/creation.
• Merging the aesthetic with the functional potentials of textile composites made from locally grown natural fibers
• Diverse potential applications (architecture, landscape architecture, product design, etc.)
• Sustainability
