New exhibition hall of the art school inaugurated

In her speech at the inauguration, University President Prof. Dr. Ute Clement emphasized: "I am convinced that the exhibition hall, with its particularly successful architecture, will give the Kunsthochschule excellent perspectives and impetus in terms of teaching, research and artistic presentations."

Prof. Dr. Martin Schmidl, Rector of the Kunsthochschule, said, "The exhibition hall opens up many excellent opportunities for our students and teachers. There, the various study programs, study workshops and cooperation partners can work together to develop exhibitions, screenings, readings, performances and make the results of their work accessible to a broad public beyond the university."

In her welcoming address at the opening of the new exhibition hall, Hesse's Minister for Science and the Arts, Angela Dorn, emphasized, "The new exhibition hall fits wonderfully into the listed ensemble of the former Werkkunstschule and creates a modern, multifunctional and inspiring space for working. This creates a place of encounter and exchange: where bright and creative minds can flourish, they contribute to making our society fit for the future. It is precisely for such projects to improve teaching that the federal and state governments have set up a program with the Higher Education Pact 2020 and are funding the new building with 4 million euros. I would like to thank the University of Kassel, which independently realized the project as a project-related building owner, and all those who supported the exhibition hall."

The single-story hall in the courtyard of the listed northern building by Paul Friedrich Posenenske has a compact structure and comprises 450 square meters of floor space. The building was designed by the Austrian firm Innauer Matt Architekten ZT GmbH. Posenenske had already planned a building at this location. The building not only impresses with its efficiency and sustainability, but is also convincing from an architectural point of view. In addition to the solid interior surfaces made of natural spruce wood, the specially made light lenses embedded throughout the upper part of the building create a pleasant spatial effect. The interior can be multifunctionally designed and divided by sliding partition walls and thus individually adapted to the desired use.

The guests received a first impression of the manifold possibilities offered by the exhibition hall with the artistic intervention "CALL" by students of the sound class under the direction of Prof. Mario de Vega. Student Morris Joffe commented: "We students were very pleased to be actively involved in the festive opening of the exhibition hall. Our 24-hour performance comprises a mixture of installation and intervention. Here we deal with the omnipresent, electromagnetic energy transmission, which we transferred and recorded into audible frequencies by means of a self-developed transducer. The project was an intensive interaction of all people involved in the project."

The client is the State of Hesse, represented by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, represented by the University of Kassel Department of Construction, Technology and Real Estate.
