SMA donates two solar banks to the University of Kassel for its anniversary

The two solar benches are clearly visible at the "LEO" learning site: They each have a solar panel with an output of 100 watts on the roof of the pedestal - this supplies power to four USB charging sockets and two places for inductive charging per bench. In addition, the solar benches offer WLAN hotspots. The integrated environmental sensors provide information on temperature, humidity and air pressure, among other things, which can be accessed via the free Strawberry Energy app.

University and local business have long been well connected in North Hesse, agree University President Ute Clement, University Chancellor Oliver Fromm and SMA Board Spokesman Jürgen Reinert. For example, SMA has been involved in the education of students for around 20 years - for example, through teaching activities or also in the supervision of final theses. In this way, students can already be introduced to important topics of the energy transition and solar energy during their studies and their own research work at the university. "Particularly in the area of research and development, we have been able to strengthen close contacts with graduates of the University of Kassel and young engineers are continuing their careers at SMA," says Jürgen Reinert, adding, "We very much hope that the successful and close cooperation will continue and that Kassel students with excellent know-how will continue to drive the energy transition forward."

University President Prof. Dr. Ute Clement adds: "The University of Kassel is committed to more ecology and sustainability in many areas. From this point of view, I am very pleased that we can once again visibly express our commitment with the two solar benches donated by SMA."

The gift for the 50th anniversary of the University of Kassel establishes a strong link to the place where the history of SMA Solar Technology began in 1981, Reinert said. At that time, three young electrical engineers, together with their former university professor Werner Kleinkauf, founded the engineering office for system, measurement and plant technology, for which the initials of the company SMA still stand today. Günther Cramer, Peter Drews and Reiner Wettlaufer were committed to the use of renewable energies against all initial resistance and thus laid the foundation for the successful widespread use of photovoltaics. "The enthusiasm for innovation and renewable energies is therefore particularly tangible here at the University of Kassel," emphasizes Jürgen Reinert.
