Together for universities with charisma

"Universities have a special impact on society where, in the spectrum between basic research and socially relevant research, they strive to network in their region and link research, studies and the world of work," commented University President Prof. Dr. Ute Clement. "This is how the University Alliance sees it, and this is how we have lived it at the University of Kassel for decades. In that respect, this membership is a perfect fit." She also sees the admission as recognition of the University of Kassel's development over the past two decades, both in terms of research and its structure-building impact. North Hesse, she said, is the prime example of a region whose upswing is closely linked to its university.

The university president also hopes that the association with the other members will lead to a better perception in the political discourse: "Universities that contribute to the development of the region consciously and in partnership have a special value. But they also have special needs, for example in terms of promoting knowledge transfer or funding a broad range of study subjects. Together with our partners in this alliance, we can make our voices better heard here." While the importance of the University of Kassel in Hesse is widely known, this position is still too rarely taken into account in the national debate on education, he said.

In a statement, UA11+ was pleased to gain a "strong partner." The alliance was founded in 2020 and includes the universities of Bielefeld, Greifswald, TU Kaiserslautern, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Kassel University, Leuphana University Lüneburg, the universities of Paderborn, Passau and Potsdam, Saarland University, the universities of Siegen, Tier and Ulm, and Bergische University Wuppertal.
