Stefan Rettich in the IBA Expert Council

The German government is an important player in the further development of the building and planning culture in Germany. International Building Exhibitions (IBA) are a relevant and innovative format of urban and regional development for this purpose, which is perceived internationally. For more than 100 years, international building exhibitions have been flagships and impulse generators for urban and regional development in Germany and now also in other European countries.

International building exhibitions that are currently being developed or have recently been completed include the IBA Basel, the IBA Heidelberg, the IBA Thuringia, the IBA Parkstadt in the Netherlands, the IBA Vienna and the IBA StadtRegion Stuttgart. The IBA process is critically accompanied by a council of experts from the federal government. This is made up of renowned players from research and practice as well as representatives from local authorities and the federal states. Other members of the IBA Council of Experts include Angelika Fitz, Director of the Architekturzentrum Wien; Prof. Christa Reicher, RWTH Aachen; Prof. Jörn Walter, Hamburg's former Chief Building Director.
