Four prizes at Startuphack 2023

The Startuphack was held for the fourth time this year. With over 40 participants and 14 teams, the event in the fall was the biggest hack to date. The aim: to develop start-up ideas around the topic of sustainability.

14 teams took up the challenge of (further) developing a sustainable, green business idea in various categories. After a week of intensive work, the teams presented their results in a festive setting at the Messinghof. A 7-member jury evaluated the ideas in three categories. A special prize was also awarded to a dedicated team of pupils. The jury members Mandy Pastohr (Hessian Ministry of Economics), Christoph Jakob (Jakob und Sozien Wirtschaftsprüfung und Steuerberatung), Hans-Friedrich Breithaupt (IHK Kassel-Marburg), Marc Finke (Kasseler Sparkasse), Mark Junge (VDI and Limon GmbH), Christian Zander (Well Development GmbH) and Kai Wittrock (Wirtschaftsförderung Region Kassel) had to be convinced.

The Newcomer Award was won by Daniela Bartel, Tobias Paetzold, Seda Rabe and Janik Rabe. With the "Foodbot App", they want to work together with pharmacies to develop an AI-supported nutritional advice system that creates nutrition plans based on nutrition-related blood values. The blood value analysis should be able to be carried out in local pharmacies. The three students received the prize money of 3,000 euros from the VDI district of North Hesse.

The Bootcamp Prize went to Marius Brede and Kevin Ekhorutomwen. Their Immoscope project aims to take the fear out of investing in the sustainable and energy-efficient renovation of your own four walls. The digital tool shows which investments are worthwhile and when they have paid for themselves. Immoscope received the prize money of 3,000 euros from Kasseler Sparkasse.

There was an additional prize for Johannes Pavel, Elisabeth Maria Breidenbach and Jan Lucas Friedrich. Although their idea did not emerge as the best in the newcomer track, the coaches agreed that the three delivered the best team performance. They impressed the coaches with their commitment, good chemistry and confident performance. For the next three months, they can use the CoCreationLab (CCL) in the SciencePark free of charge to further develop their idea (or a completely new one). The SciencePark sponsors the CCL, including close coaching.

Last but not least, a student team took part in the Startuphack for the first time. Stefan Glas, Kalle Bracht and Leo Bechstein have already worked on a device for measuring microplastics in water at the student research center. Now they want to further develop their prototype into a modular system that other research institutions can easily use. Antrok has announced a special prize for the 17 to 18-year-olds' achievement: Part of the cost of the device will be covered. Antrok is also providing expertise and premises for the development of the new measuring devices.

Background:

The Startup Hack takes place as part of the university event "Business Startup -Clima Tec!" with Prof. Dr. Jens Hesselbach in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The event is open to most degree courses as a key competence. The organizers also provide support on the path to founding a company beyond the Startuphack. So far, 38 percent of Startuphack participants have managed to either found a company or receive funding. In addition to the University of Kassel (FB15), the organizers are the VDI district of North Hesse, the SciencePark Kassel, the IHK Kassel-Marburg, the Wirtschaftsförderung Region Kassel and, for the first time this year, the Kasseler Sparkasse.
